Extend Our Land Project

Project Update June 2003 Print E-mail

Thank you Lord! With the Lord's care and protection, construction was completed in February of the approximately 55 square meter building near the main gate. A barbed wire fence was put across the end of the property where the fish pond is to finish enclosing our land. We also had a well drilled to provide drinking water. This well was a testimony of God's grace to us! At first we were concerned about this well, where to drill it for keeping the water supply clean and getting into a good aquifer. When the well drilling team came, they helped select the location and drilled well below the water table, but very little water was flowing into the well. If it didn't produce well, all the time and effort would have been wasted, and we would still have had the problem of supplying water. Praise God who answers prayer! Two days after the well was finished, the water level was up and with some more development of the flow, it should provide plenty of water. In Cambodia we would normally have had to pay a lot to drill a well, but we are grateful that this well was drilled for free. A Christian organization from the United States , Lifewater International, was training a group of Cambodian Christians to drill wells, and they needed a place to practice doing their first well on their own. So, they drilled our well for free. God's grace is like this well, abundant and overflowing!

Besides the construction on this piece of land, people's lives are also being gradually built up. We went to visit the village chief, who lives next to our property. Missionary Chris Wilkins shared his testimony (through an interpreter), and after hearing of God's wonderful grace, the village chief said that he was ready to receive Jesus Christ as his savior! He had been listening for some months to the Gospel broadcasts of FEBC (Far East Broadcasting Cambodia). May the Holy Spirit work in his heart and God's Word grow and develop in his life. He also said to our missionaries that if we would open a school on our property, the children in the village would not have to walk so far (about a mile) to be able to study. Of course, he is not completely clear about what our property will be used for, but we can see that every building on this property can became a blessing to many others.

For some months there were soccer and volleyball games every Sunday afternoon at this property. (Now with the rainy season the sports are only once a month, but the Sunday School is every Sunday.) This includes a short time of sharing from the living water of God's Word for the older children who participate in the sports, and a longer Sunday School time with songs, scripture and sharing for the many younger children who come from nearby homes. Soccer and volleyball are favorite activities in Cambodia , and through these healthy activities, bodies can be trained.

We want to see Cambodian people growing up with healthy bodies, but we want even more for them to receive Christ Jesus and have abundant spiritual lives.

Later on we will install a regular electrical supply. (Right now we just have a temporary connection.) There is a song,  "Give me oil in my lamp", in which the songwriter asks the Lord to give him "oil" so that his oil lamp may burn bright and clear for the Lord. Today we are asking the Lord for "electricity", praying that our  "electric light" here will shine for the Lord as the  "shining light of the Lord, illuminating our society" !
