Extend Our Land

Can you feel the joy of the desperate travelers in the desert when they see an oasis? Can you feel the excitement of the despairing people in darkness when they see a ray of light which will lead to life and hope?

Is there a hope for young people?

Isaac, a young leader in Prek Thei Church wrote: "I never thought that I could have a chance for further study after secondary school. My life was so dark at that time. I thought I would just be a factory worker. When I learned that a sponsor would like to support me to study in the university, I was very excited and nothing could compare in my lifeˇK" Now Isaac, Jonathan and Lynn are the pioneers of our university student hostel. They are now reaching out to their friends in the university, and also helping at the preaching point in Phnom Penh on Sundays. If we can have more young men like them, the church will have a bright future and also a great effect on their peer groups.

After the great genocide in the 70s, and the civil war and restlessness in the 80s and 90s, Cambodia now is a developing country, with about 60% of the population under 20 years of age. There is a lot of community redevelopment going on. These young people need to be fed properly, and they need education and guidance.

Is there a home for people away from home?

When I was a missionary in the hills of Northern Thailand, once I had a retreat in a missionary guest house in Bangkok. I was refreshed through the fellowship with missionaries from another mission agency and was inspired by the godly hostess. The missionary guest house was my "Broom Tree" and the Hostess was the God-sent angel. (I Kings 19:4). Many missionaries regained their strength and vision in this missionary guest house. It was a real blessing to these servants of God away from home.

Is there a place?

Is there a place for Christians and young people to have quality Christian recreation?
Is there a place for quality vocational training for the young people to learn a skill to earn two meals for the family?
Is there a home for poor children, unwanted children and orphans?
"The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few." Is there a place to equip Christians for this great mission field?

Is there a Primary Objective?

The primary objective is for holistic Christian ministry to the people of Cambodia: for evangelism, equipping and training. Let people see the Glory of the Lord Almighty in this Buddhist country by providing teaching on the Truth and Biblical moral values; and undertaking developmental work for the practical benefit of the Cambodian people. We will focus on meeting the physical and spiritual needs of children, young people, and adults. We will train and equip people to evangelize with the primary objective of a holistic ministry. Pray that the Cambodian Christians will be able to take responsibility at the earliest possibility. When we were making detailed plans for the land, we had all these objectives in mind.

March 4-5, I went to Cambodia with Mr. Kenneth Chan, an architect, and also the secretary/treasurer of APFMMA. We went for a site visit of the land, and made detailed building plans and schedules for the land with our missionary team.

Building Plan

On this piece of land, we will build different buildings of two storeys in different stages over a span of 5-10 years:

  • Guest House: as "Missionary Retreat House" and guest house, with a Christian Book/Gift Shop;
  • Custodian Quarters;
  • Houses for our resident missionaries, Head of the Bible Training Center etc.,
  • A camp site with Kitchen and Dining Hall including a Reception and Registration Area, and Christian Book/Gift Shop. Initially on a temporary basis this building will be used as:
    • University Student Hostel,
    • Children's Ministry Center,
    • Conference Center,
    • Offices for APFMMA, Field Director, & Conference Center Administrative Offices etc..
  • Conference Center;
  • Childcare Ministry Center;
  • Bible School and Student Hostel;
  • Vocational Training School;
  • Covered Court (Multipurpose) for Basketball, outdoor meetings, etc.
  • Above all, the first project will be the filling of the land and building the fence around the property to ensure security of the land.

Can you foresee the blessings that this will bring upon the young people? Young people will be trained in the university with the caring of a kind dorm parent with Christian love, and trained in God's word.

Can you foresee little children eating apples and eggs with smiling faces and growing up healthily with good education?

Can you see humble servants being raised up for God's ministry and penetrating each province and village in teams with the Good News?

Can you foresee the weary missionaries being refreshed with renewed vision and being ready "to run with the horses" to fight another victorious battle for their Lord?

Can you foresee this piece of muddy land becoming "a vast army" (Ezekiel 37) for the glory of the Lord?

What a joy! What a glory! Come, and take part in this tremendously rewarding challenge, and be a partner "To Extend the Land of Eternal Blessings".
