Establish a harmonious family
In the middle of May, we held a 3 day adult retreat at a church located in Siem Reap in the north-west of Cambodia. The attendees came from different village churches; some of them were couples and some were single parents. A total of 135 persons joined this camp. "How to establish a harmonious family" was the theme of the camp. We invited a senior pastor who came from Peace Bridges, a local Christian organization, to be the speaker.
In recent years, people have had a hard time to maintain their livelihood in the rural villages. Moreover, village life is boring; many husbands start gambling or drinking alcohol. Domestic violence is very common; husbands always vent their anger on their wives and kids. Some husbands abandon their wives and kids to go elsewhere for work, and never come back. Many broken families appear in the villages and many women have broken hearts and spirits. Sometimes the unfortunate family situation will affect the kids as they grow up. The lectures at the camp helped the attendees to think back and reflect on this phenomenon, and reminded the Christian couples to live together with love and consideration, and to be united.
Thank God! In the past ten years, God has been willing to use our missionary team to spread the good news to different villages, building up the followers through the truths of the Bible, establishing churches and training the local church leaders. Many church leaders are working with us. I recognized three pastors who came from different villages. Before they believed in God, they also suffered domestic violence in their families. But now, they have glorious experiences in their life. We praise the miracle power of the Spirit. Only Jesus Christ can change people's minds and take away their sin,
In this society full of criminal thinking, church is another society which is based on Christ's character. Our major mission is to teach the followers about Godly ethics, building up the follower's lives and helping them to establish holistic family systems. May the Spirit lead us to spread the love of Jesus Christ in Cambodia, letting them know Jesus is the key to having eternal life in Him.
