New Blood Print E-mail

Since June 1, we have recruited a fresh University graduate, Brother Isaac, to be our staff in the Development Ministry. He is a church member in Prek Thei village and he is one of the University students sponsored by our brothers and sisters in Hong Kong. Since Rev. and Mrs. Jim Nelson will be leaving for the States soon, we need a full time staff to take care of the existing development projects, such as sewing Cambodian skirts and Bible covers, painting note cards and bookmarks, raising animals, etc., so as to help the church members with their livelihood. Thank God that He prepared Brother Isaac: his major was Community Development which is very compatible to our needs. More importantly, he has a fervent heart to serve God and help the poor people. Please pray for his adjustment and strength to serve.

The piglet raising scheme at Prek Ksev village has come to an end as all the pigs have been sold. I plan to start another project at the church in Kampot province. Thus, on June 4, Brother Isaac and I have visited there and shared the scheme with the church leaders. Brother Isaac explained the scheme to them in detail and they were very excited. They also conducted a meeting with all the church members on June 11 in order to elect a Development Committee. I thank God for their enthusiasm. Please pray for the process of further discussion and implementation.

Actually, the piglet scheme at Prek Ksev village was not successful in terms of profit because all the pigs either died or were sold before the expected time because of sickness. We lost about US$60. I thank many brothers and sisters who encouraged me not to be disappointed. In fact, I don' t have much frustration because I saw God working. To outward appearances, we failed to complete the scheme smoothly, but what we gained could not be measured in monetary terms. For instance, I gained actual experience and now understand their situation better, God also kept up their faith even through difficulties, and some were very considerate about our loss too. Those experiences will help me in working with the Kampot church too because they are asking the same questions that I have encountered in Prek Ksev, and now I can give them some practical ideas. Therefore, I thank God for His guidance even though everything was not always what we expected. In the meantime, I have been thinking about whether we should continue the scheme in Prek Ksev or other alternatives, because they still have great needs for livelihood. Please pray to God that we will have the wisdom to do what He has prepared us to do.

Other than the development projects, I had the opportunity to teach an English class for young people (about 12) at the Phnom Penh Thmei property for two weeks. They were very lovely and very positive in learning. Even though sometimes they did not have any classroom discipline (like what we have in Hong Kong), they were very serious in writing down anything I wrote on the board. May God' s love move their heart so that not only could they gain knowledge, but they could also gain the abundant life granted by God. Please pray for missionary Rebecca Chung that she may have the strength to teach them. Also pray for Lim and Pauline (the church planters there) that they can build up good relationship with them too.

In the future, we will have lots of changes in personnel within our team, but I believe that God has His good Will for us.
