Dear brothers and sisters,
I am very grateful for your continuous prayers especially my Khmer
study.
Since my prime task is to study Khmer, I could have some opportunities
to know and learn more about how are our missionaries doing in
Cambodia
.
During Saturdays and Sundays, I may visit some FM churches along with the
stationed missionaries. The following are my feeling about WHAT is a MISSIONARY
over these few months' observations:
A
versatile servant to serve
Missionaries follow what Jesus did ˇĄto serve and not to be served'.
There are tremendous needs of the churches or communities.
Sometimes, missionaries need to pick up people especially villagers to
city for hospitalization or become a driver to deliver people or stuff to remote
places. Most of the time, they work with local church pastors and leaders and become their
mentors. It needs lots of patience
and energy because of the cultural difference and expectations.
When there are times to build the chapel, they will be the supervisors to
take care of the materials, schedule and coordination with either overseas
working team or local workers. Reception
of overseas visitors or helpers is also a vital task in conveying the vision of
mission. Surely, paper works and
meetings are part of the daily schedule. Besides,
they need to keep on learning Khmer because it is a long journey to be competent
in handling the language.

A
preacher and trainer
Preaching and training at respective churches and preaching points are
essential. Christians need to grow
on the foundation of truth. On the
other hand, as what Apostle Paul told his fellow worker, Timothy, teach those
are teachable so as to build up the church; missionaries need to grasp the time
to train local leaders that they could pass the baton continuously because one
day, missionary may eventually leave the field.
Moreover, local leaders could do more effectively than that of
missionaries because there are no language or cultural barrier.
However, it is also the most time consuming and breath taking ministry to
build up disciples of Jesus.

A
life long learner in the Lord
Missionaries also have weaknesses and limitations where they may become
subjective or sometimes prejudiced when they had experienced something
unpleasant. Therefore, a continuous
alertness is vital. A healthy
relationship with God is important in facing daily life struggles and
challenges. God makes use of
different situations to prune His branches (servants) so as to let them bear
more fruits and become mature. It's
a never-ending process. On the other
hand, team support is necessary where mutual encouragement and supplication are
the keys to survive especially in a cross cultural field.
However, it is not easy to build up the team spirit because everyone is
so unique and it takes great effort to learn, to cooperate with and to
understand respective individuals.
I am very happy to be a member of the team.
I could see the works of God that He puts people of different character
with strengths and weaknesses together to fulfil His purpose. I always learn and
gain more than what I could contribute.
Prayer points
- I will help in the Youth Camp from April 15 to 17
