Grow in Love

I once saw a picture at a friend's home years ago that said, "There is home where there is love."   As a missionary, we always have a "homeless" or "rootless" feeling in a foreign country; however, love becomes the essential motivation to keep us serving the Lord, the brothers and sisters, and the non-Christians in the community.

April and May were quite busy months in that we had camps plus the Parents' Day for the university students.  Through these programs, I can see God's working in our young people's lives.

The Love of Brotherhood in Christ

Last time we had youth camp, the leaders were exhausted afterwards, and some also had the ‘gut feeling' that only a few people were willing to help with the camp.  One of the leaders said, "I never want to be the leader again because some campers are always demanding and complaining.  No one was willing to serve, only to get!"  I can understand how frustrating it is to work exhaustively when no one appreciates or helps.   Nevertheless, this year, God was gracious in that many young people rose up to help, and they worked together as different teams to make the camp successful - security teams, group leaders, worship teams, IT teams, treasurer, etc. (in all a total of more than 50 volunteers). All our university students also joined the camp and worked hard on the preparation; some even worked until midnight the day before the camp.  Another amazing thing was their endeavor to incorporate hi-tech stuff during the training sessions and worship time.  They used a video projector, laptop computer and videos to create attractive images  that helped the campers enjoy camp and learn effectively.  You know it is not easy to do it in the VILLAGE where power failures and unfavorable operating conditions exist all the time.  However, God was gracious and He made everything possible despite our limitations.  The most important thing is to see their unity in serving without complaints.  No matter what problems arose, they communicated with each other and settled them together.  I think only love can bring them together for the sake of others.  Just as Jesus said, "it is more blessed to give than to receive;" all could see the value of fellowship, and they committed themselves as a team to serve. May God continue to bind them together in His love and grace.

The Love of Parents and Children

Over the past few years, we've organized a Parents' Day for our university students in order to let their parents understand their living conditions in the dormitory.  It is also a good opportunity to preach the gospel to some of those who are non-Christians.  Many parents came, and they were all excited with the program that their children had prepared for them.  One of the features was the presentation of gifts from different students.  One student got down on his knees in public to present his gift in a very humble and sincere manner.  I could see how culture and love mix together to create a beautiful picture.  On the other hand, we reiterated our dormitory rules to show our concern for their studies and spiritual development.  Anyway, I could feel the parents are very supportive and proud of their children.  The atmosphere was like a big family party to count the blessings of the Lord.  May God's love become the bond in their family relationships - showing sacrifice and respect.

Prayer points

1. Thank the Lord that our Youth camp had 148 youth who participated. Even though there was no fancy and comfortable venue (it was held at Prek Thei church), we enjoyed the closeness of fellowship and encouragement from God's Word.

2. Pray for Mark's family- within a month, his sister was attacked by evil spirits and his young brother had a serious traffic accident. May God protect them from evil and helplessness

3. Pray for our missionary team as we are shorthanded in different ministries like the childcare centers, church planting and pastoral training, the school project and others

4. Pray for the university students who will be graduated this year, it is very difficult to find jobs, and especially so with the current economy

5. Pray for God to provide sponsors for the new university students this year

6. Pray for our development projects - our development project coordinator, brother Minea has quit the position. Thank God that we plan to hire another university student in the near future to continue the work as a part-time development project coordinator. Please also pray for me that I can handle the changes smoothly
