The Wednesday Prayer Meeting
On Wednesdays since we moved into this new office, I have been having about a 1 hour devotional time with my local coworkers. It is a wonderful time to have fellowship together, other than a mere working relationship with them. I am getting to know them more personally, and share their joys and sorrows through the trust-building process. In addition, I am discovering their gifts and how we can work and support each other more effectively. Let me share our happy times with you:
Our Clerical Staff person - brother Meas
Brother Meas usually leads the hymn during the praise time. I found out that his dream was to be a singer. This is not surprising as he has a very good voice. In addition, I can learn more Khmer songs and words through his leading. Actually, he is quite shy and quiet. I remember before that he never talked much about himself, but now he is more comfortable in sharing about his family, friends and burdens. I've also noticed that when he gives an opening prayer, he always asks the Lord that the Bible sharing to follow be inspired by the Holy Spirit instead of human wisdom. I really appreciate his desire to know the truth of God in the Bible. He listens attentively and enjoys reading the Bible, which is quite different from the young people in the church. It is a good start to the devotions, right?
Our School Project Executive- brother Khlee
Brother Khlee is a faithful Christian who serves the Lord fervently. He usually shares the Bible message with us and illustrates it with lots of his experiences. He has worked with different private companies and Christian organizations for years. He also uses his free time to help ministries at his church or other outreaches. I enjoy his sharing very much because I can understand more about Cambodian churches and organizations outside the Free Methodist environment. His interest is to do research about Christian leadership, and he reads lots of books in that field. Like last week, he shared with us about servant leadership, and explained the difference between a manager and a leader. His messages always inspire me to be alert in the ministry. It is a fruitful learning time, right?
Our Development Projects Coordinator - brother Philemon
Brother Philemon just joined our team on June 1, and he is also the youngest in the office. He is a faithful and reliable worker. Moreover, he has a good skill in playing the hand drum, hence he makes a perfect match with Meas to praise and sing. Even though he works part time, he gets along well with Meas and Khlee. They usually have lunch together and help each other in time of need. During the devotional time, he often raises prayer requests for the young people, and I can see he has compassion to serve and is concerned about their needs. It is a very encouraging moment, right?
Of course, no one is perfect; we all have weaknesses and limitations in our human nature. However, God is gracious that we can have the opportunity to serve together and to learn from each other. The devotional time is precious to us in building up brotherhood in Christ and mutual support.
