Dear Friends,
There is always a time for everything! In Ecclesiastes 3:1 &11 it says, "To everything there is a season and a time for every purpose under the heaven. ... He hath made everything beautiful in His time."
We did not question about the things happening in our family. God has the right time for every life of every person. God has genuine purpose for each and everyone.
Grace's father passed away on May 1, but we could not attend the funeral. However, God prepared in a different way. We can go home, but not during my dad's funeral. We can choose the day and time to go home and visit the tomb and make a roof over the tombs of Grace's dad and mom. We will go home the 3rd week of June.
CAMPS
We want to praise the Lord for Youth Camp in April. We had 182 youth who came to Prek Thei Church. We found out that they want to raise their own funds so they can have camp every year. God really helped so much and a lot of young people accepted Christ as their personal Savior. In fact, from Phnom Penh church, one young man attended and accepted Jesus as his personal Savior and now he is very faithful to attend the church worship and fellowship.
Some unbelievers attended the youth camp and now they are coming to church worship. We have heard a lot of testimonies in different churches that the topics at camp were really good and blessed them.
Please pray for Mark, as he was reelected as president of the Youth for the next year. Mark did most of the organizing of the camp program, with our help too.
The Men's and Women's Camp was held in Siem Reap, with 140 men and women who attended. Some of the women are widows. It was so tiring, but we were so happy that a lot of people attended. We had time to go to the historical part of Cambodia, visiting a cultural museum and Angkor Wat. All of the campers were so happy to visit those places, and they were very excited to share with their friends about what they saw. They also shared about the lessons taught by Brother Nop Sokha. He spoke on resolving conflicts in the local church. The evangelistic evening service featured a Khmer pastor from Siem Reap.
BIBLE STUDIES
Every Thursday Grace goes to Prek Thei to do a Bible study with the Women's Fellowship officers. Mrs. Eunice Sar was reelected as President, and Sopheap Thy and Srey-Mom Suen were elected as Vice Presidents of Programming and Missions. The secretary is Chanton Em (a public school teacher), and the treasurer is Pauline Kong, the wife of our Phnom Penh assistant pastor. Every Thursday we have 7 women who attend the Purpose Driven Life Bible study. The lesson is really very simple because some of them cannot read well.
Every Saturday, we both go to Takhmau to teach a book about Church Planting to our leaders. It is for the church leaders who have no time to go to Bible school.
Abundant Life and Abundant Light, two follow up discipleship studies, are being taught by our leaders in 4 churches. We have 50 students under different teachers in different places. We use these studies also with our university students. We had 8 teachers last year using the books of Abundant Light and Abundant Life. This is one way of nurturing our members. We've also requested our leaders to enroll in the Theological Education by Extension program.
PHNOM PENH CHURCH
Right now Joel is pastor in charge of Phnom Penh church, and his assistants are Lim and Pauline. Every Tuesday and Thursday is visitation to the Phnom Penh members. We are praying for places for home Bible studies during the week. Lim is really doing great. Joel only preaches at Phnom Penh once a month, and all the rest of the work is delegated to Lim and Pauline. Brother Nop Sokha and Daniel help out on Sundays. Joel communicates with Lim since he is the assigned assistant pastor for Phnom Penh church. We are very happy to work with him and Pauline. They are a young couple, but Lim has a teachable spirit, which is the most important.
OTHER CHURCHES
We are still going to Kampot church the last Sunday of every month, and sometimes we go to Kampong Cham too. We have things to prepare for a street children's Vacation Bible School in August. Please pray for God's guidance and wisdom because this is the first time to try this.
Every Thursday we realize how important it is to listen to the women as we hear of different problems in families and the concerns of the church work. We do need to pray for Samuel Sar, the pastor at Treuyslaa, because he needs to have a brain scan this week. He has a problem of his sight blurring, and the left eye cannot focus properly. He always needs to wear eyeglasses. Sopheap, the manager of the House of Love, is suffering from pain in her back. She cannot really sit for a long time. Another pastor's wife, from Kaoh Ksachtunlea East, Srey-Mom, is going to have an operation on her gall bladder which will cost $240 . So we need your prayers.
ROBBER
We went to the coast with 50 young people to do an evaluation of youth camp and plan the other youth activities for the year. However, on the second night, a thief came to the guesthouse and took both our cell phones as well as Helen's phone, passport and wallet. We were inside the room sleeping and he came at 4 a.m. We were so bothered because this is the second time we've been robbed in Cambodia. It is really very scary. None of the items have been recovered. However, we reported the loss immediately, so were able to get the same cell phone numbers back again.
