Our recent ministries in Cambodia and China

  • Just give pain reliever pills:  Joel & Grace ( missionaries in Cambodia) have gone back to Philippines to check their body in late November - mid December.  Joel is feeling better and no more dizziness.  But Grace still has pain on her breast. Doctor gave her some pain reliever pills.  When they were in Philippines, they had visited Joel's parents and they were in good condition.
  • Joel & Grace go back to Philippines for mother's funeral : Joel & Grace go back to Philippines again in late December for their mother's funeral. On December 27th they received a phone call from Philippines that Joel's mother passed away.  Their family members are waiting for their coming.
  • Cambodia: Davis Lam has returned back to Cambodia in mid December after his 3 months' home assignment in Hong Kong.  He resumes work immediately - to find a new apartment, and to arrange for the coming of a mission study team from Spring Arbor University in early January 2007.
  • In China - in the House of Love we have three more children.  Praise the Lord the children have grown a lot in schoolwork and behavior, especially in prayer.  They comforted and prayed for the dorm mother from Hong Kong when they heard that her good friend died of cancer
  • Christmas 2006: I went with three other Christians went to Sawtow to visit a university student.  She is a former student in our House of Love in China.  We continue to support her school fee, but she works two hours in a kindergarten to earn for her food money and pocket money.
  • Hong Kong: "One more percent" - a mission carnival on Sunday afternoon 28th January 2007 - to encourage each member to give 1% of their income for missions work in addition to their regular giving.  There will be praise and worship, sharing, simple lunch (2 pieces of bread and water -- to have the experience of hunger in many countries), and then game booths.
  • APFMMA Executive Committee meeting in January 3-4, 2007 in Hong Kong.  Delegates from Hong Kong, India, Japan, Philippines, Taiwan and Thailand / US are coming for the meeting.

Travel, fellowship, and spiritual encounters in 2006

  • This year I also traveled to different places for meetings, sharing and mission teams.  I have been to Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar, the US and Canada.
  • I enjoyed the time in Cambodia.  It was fun and also a real cross cultural trip: having meals in a Russian restaurant, a Japanese restaurant, a Filipino restaurant, an American restaurant, a Cambodian restaurant, and a Chinese restaurant. In all these I enjoyed Cambodian coconut ice cream the most.
  • Though I went to Cambodia so many times, almost every time when the airplane took off and flew away from Cambodia, when I thought of leaving our dear missionaries working hard with very limited resources, tears filled my eyes.  All I can do is to pray for them.
  • In Myanmar I taught an intensive course in our Bible School.  The students are living a very simple life but they are studying hard to prepare themselves for the ministry.
  • In October I enjoyed the time in Vancouver, Canada - visited some Christians from Hong Kong and church.  I enjoyed going to Weaver Creek to watch the salmon.  As a salmon, they have their "mission" -- swimming up streams to lay eggs.  They tried their very best to swim miles and miles upstream and many died on the way.  They completed their "mission" by giving up their lives.  How about Christians?  We have got a "great commission" too.
  • November:medical team to Cambodia - We experienced a "spiritual encounter".  We prayed earnestly in the mighty name of our Lord Jesus Christ to release a girl from being demon-possessed in the House of Love.  Jesus is the mighty God.

One more assignment

From March 2006 I was assigned one more assignment as "advisory pastor" in Tsuen Wan Free Methodist Church because their pastor had left in February.  I like people ministry, but then that keeps me very busy and needs a lot of energy.

Graduation at my mid 50s

I am very thankful that in June 2006 I finished the Master of Divinity course (major in pastoral counseling) in my mid 50s.  It took me five years.  It was not easy to study part time in the evenings, at the same time working full time and traveling quite a lot.  God's grace is sufficient.  After these 28 years in ministry, it is time to be renewed and refreshed.  I hope to serve the Lord more effectively, and be a vessel of blessing to many people.  Thanks so much for the cards and gifts from friends for my graduation. Besides God's help, friends' prayer and support made the graduation possible.

New missionaries to Cambodia

  • September 2006: Cambodia -- a missionary from another mission agency was seconded to serve as dorm father in the university boys' dorm for one year.  Praise the Lord for His provision to fill the vacancy.
  • November 2006: Cambodia -- Rev. Helen Cabayao from the Philippines serves as dorm mother in the university girls' dorm and also will start campus ministry.  However, she will concentrate on language study in the first year.  She still lacks a very small portion of her support
  • January 2007: Cambodia - Ms Christina Leung, from Hong Kong, will help in childcare ministry and women's ministry; of course, the focus in the first year will be on language study.

Please pray with me

  1. Praise the Lord, our missionary team and local leaders and pastors in Cambodia serve together in harmony.  Please pray that they will continue to keep this harmony and unity, and put on the whole spiritual armor, continuing to serve hand in hand in joy and love with strength and wisdom from above.
  2. Pray for the two new missionaries getting adjusted in Cambodia and language study.
  3. Pray for strength and wisdom for me to serve as advisory pastor in Tsuen Wan Church; also pray for unity and harmony in the church.
  4. Pray for my goal in 2007:exercise for my physical body, exercise in my spiritual life.
  5. Pray for "One more percent" - a mission carnival on Sunday afternoon 28th January 2007.  Please pray for the preparation.  Pray that the participants will response to the missionary call from God.
  6. Pray for APFMMA Executive Committee meeting in January 3-4, 2007 in Hong Kong.  Pray for the travel mercy of the delegates, and the discussion and planning in the meeting.

Oh, God, revive your church today, but first of all renew and refresh us.

In His grace and hope,
Polly
