A recent news article reports that in the township of Luchenza, a group of people want to recruit as many as 100 children to train as witches. As first recruits, ten children report they have been part of training happening at night. One of the aspects of the training includes eventually killing the children's parents and then performing witchcraft throughout the township. Pray for spiritual protection and safety for the children of this community.

On May 22, they will have a trip to Hong Kong and Guangzhou for a couple of days. Pray for the travel arrangements.

21

China

Traditional Chinese churches, whether the Three-self or house churches, are not appealing to the new generation of Chinese Christian intellectuals. They have a unique educational and cultural background, along with a particular need for discipleship. Churches that cater to these scholars are called "The Third Field." We thank the Lord for these new believers who are highly educated and thirsty for the truth. (Pray for China)

22

China

China has the dubious honor of having the highest suicidal rate. 280,000 Chinese people take their own lives yearly. Worse, China is the only country where there are more female suicides than male. Women in villages consider suicide the easiest way out of their misery and poverty. Most of the Chinese churches are in villages where believers know of neighbors who have committed suicide. We pray with a heavy heart for all the lost souls and for what rural churches can do to share their faith with many who are without hope. (Pray for China)

Pray for Aloyce's family, the church where he ministered in Mwanza, and the many children whose lives he touched while serving as the study center chaplain.

Pray for people in Haiti who are struggling to find enough food to eat, while each day the food prices continue to go up. Some are not getting any food and are eating clay just to have something in their stomach. This country has 80 percent unemployment, and the rice production is exported, so hunger increases in Haiti. Pray for the missionaries to have faith in facing the daily stress, and living in this impoverished nation.
